About HOTA Gold Coast

In tropical parklands with the Surfers Paradise skyline as the backdrop, HOTA Home of the Arts is a contemporary cultural precinct where art meets life.

HOTA is the Gold Coast’s home of live performances, lake-side strolls, stargazing, cinema-watching, art, conversation and new-ideas.

There’s a unique outdoor stage in the parklands for live events, and indoors two theatres feature performances from the very best national and international artists and theatre companies.

Two arthouse cinemas show a curated selection of blockbusters, foreign films, independent movies and documentaries and HOTA Café is a great place to relax and reconnect.

Outdoors our beautiful lake is a popular place to swim and our hidden adventure trail offers a never seen before view of Surfers Paradise.

And in early 2021 we will open the doors of the brand new HOTA Gallery. A brand new $60.5 million gallery is being built at HOTA. The new HOTA Gallery will open in early 2021. And with unexpected art indoors and out, HOTA, Home of the Arts will become a must-see cultural destination.

Inspired by William Robinson’s stunning Rainforest painting, the Gallery will be adaptable, collaborative, unique and playful, just like our city. HOTA Gallery will be the largest public gallery outside a capital city in Australia with the ability and ambition to present exhibitions and projects of national and international scale.

In the first two years HOTA will host three major international exhibitions that are Australian exclusives and only seen on the Gold Coast. And they will continue to celebrate local talent and show the $31 million City Collection in its new home.

Designed by international architects ARM, our $60.5 million art gallery will span six levels, with over 2000m2 of AAA rated, international standard exhibition space which includes:

  • The Main Exhibition Gallery – a 1000m2 space, designed specifically for touring exhibitions of an international size and scale. It will be a column free space with soaring six-metre high ceilings.
  • A dedicated Children’s Gallery.
  • 900m2 of exhibition space for the City collection and temporary exhibitions.
  • Nearly 1000m2 of collection storage, work-space and crate storage area.

The annual Gallery program will be designed to present headliner exhibitions intrinsically linked with smaller scale exhibitions, commissions, children’s exhibitions and education initiatives, talks, performances and Up-Lates alongside external activations and installations.

With a packed program of both ticketed and free events there’s so much happening here. Check out what’s on and plan your visit to HOTA, Home of the Arts.

Imagine a place where art captures your imagination. Where art is for everyone, where art is for life.
